Environmental Monitoring: forests, fires and hot spots

We carry out constant environmental monitoring that allows us to measure the impact of our operations in our areas of influence.

We signed the Public Declaration of Partners of GREPALMA and Voluntary Commitment to Zero Deforestation, in which we declare our commitment, voluntary, to zero deforestation in the country, so we have a satellite monitoring by the company Satelligence of our operations and those of our suppliers, who through periodic reports show any situation related to forest loss that may occur, including early fire warnings. The latest report does not reflect any change in forest/vegetation cover in the areas.

We also have the Global Forest Watch tool which through its website allows online monitoring on the status of outbreaks, fires and forest fires in the vicinity of our operations and of our suppliers.

Fire Reports

The tool allows us to obtain a report of hectares of forest cover in our area of influence and from our suppliers, as established by the RSPO Standard.

Optimization of soils

For palm cultivation to be friendly to the soils in which it is developed, it is necessary to implement agricultural practices that reduce the impact on the soil and preserve or improve its quality. We have a series of practices for soil conservation where we develop our operations.

Through our NDPE Policy, we take a high carbon stock approach, applicable to all suppliers.

Identifying the vocation of soils and delimiting those sites of fragile soils such as high slopes, riverbanks and peat soils, defining actions to prevent physical or chemical soil degradation is our commitment, so we do not develop plantations in riparian areas, fragile soils, drainage areas and peat soils, regardless of their depth.

We have 795.02 ha in reserve for conservation, including the HCV area.

Zero Burning

As a Group we are committed to not use fire or burning for pest control, prepare or condition future crop areas or carry out plantation renovations through our Policy on Sustainability and our NDEP Policy, both apply to all our suppliers. Through satellite monitoring carried out by Satelligence there is no fire source registered in our operations or those of our suppliers.

Within our Soil Conservation Plan we implement a program of nutrition, plant cover and integration of organic matter, among others.

Plant nutrition and application of by-products

These practices allow to offer the plant a favorable environment for its development and improve soil quality. Also, as good agricultural practices we implement living barriers, planting of nectariferous plants, and planting of green fertilizers.

Atmosphere

Committed to periodically calculate greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions and implement actions for progressive reduction, incorporating mitigation practices and technology according to their operational and financial possibilities, we have a commitment to reduce GHG which was made based on the ISSC methodology.

For Atlántida and El Triunfo, the first GHG calculation was performed in 2020 based on the RSPO methodology, which will be considered as baseline for subsequent follow-up and measurement.
